About The Author
From operations to systems thinking
I am an experienced operational leader, service improvement practitioner and publishing author with over 20 years’ experience across healthcare, social care, housing and customer-focused services. Throughout my career, I have been interested in a simple question: what helps people, teams and organisations perform at their best?
My work has taken me from frontline and operational roles into senior leadership, giving me experience of leading services, developing people, managing change and improving the systems and conditions in which people work. I have worked closely with teams at every level, as well as senior and executive leaders, and am particularly interested in systems thinking and the relationship between leadership, culture, organisational systems and human behaviour.
Understanding how work really happens
I take a practical, people-centred approach. I believe that lasting improvement comes from understanding how work really happens, listening to the people closest to it, and looking beyond individual behaviour to the wider conditions, pressures, decisions and systems that influence performance. My approach combines curiosity, empathy and accountability with a determination to turn insight into practical, sustainable improvement.
The work behind Human System
This same interest informs my authorial work. Through my forthcoming book, Human System, I explore how leadership, culture, organisational systems and human behaviour shape performance, why well-intentioned systems can sometimes produce unintended outcomes, and how a better understanding of these relationships can support better decisions, learning and improvement.
Beyond the book
I am also developing software that brings these ideas into practice, helping organisations strengthen how they plan, govern, make decisions, learn and improve through greater structure, clarity and meaningful involvement of the people doing the work.
Alongside my work, I am particularly interested in organisational learning, decision-making, leadership and the practical application of systems thinking. Ultimately, I am motivated by helping people and organisations make sense of complexity, strengthen how they work together and create the conditions in which people can do good work and meaningful, sustainable improvement can take place.
